Chainlink is a decentralised oracle network. Its role is to connect blockchains to reliable external data: market prices, rates, events, financial information or data from off-chain systems. Its native asset, LINK, is associated with the economics of the Chainlink network.
How it works
Blockchains cannot directly access real-world information. Chainlink provides this data through oracle networks composed of multiple independent operators. These oracles retrieve, verify and transmit information to smart contracts, allowing them to execute based on reliable data.
Utility
Chainlink is essential for many decentralised finance use cases, including lending, derivatives, stablecoins and automated insurance. Without reliable oracles, smart contracts remain limited to data internal to the blockchain. LINK therefore provides exposure to a key infrastructure connecting digital assets to the real world.
